2012

January -

Victor Choptain

Victor began working out regularly at Boze’s two years ago this January...and during the past two years he’s become more and more of a regular. In fact, during the last several months you could just about tell the
time based on when Victor was in the gym.

Victor has been increasing the intensity and duration of his workouts over the past several months with pretty dramatic results. He has gotten significantly stronger - and with the positive results he’s continued to adjust his workouts to maximize the benefits of his training.

Victor works hard when he’s in the gym and as a result isn’t necessarily someone who has time to gab with others. He’s focused on what he wants and needs to do in the gym and hits the weights with energy and determination. His workouts are somewhat varied - in that he works all the major muscle groups - but has spent time recently on his upper body. Increasing the intensity of his training has produced the positive results he’s looking for.

As a “youngster” (at least compared to Boze) he has nothing but positive upside...and if he continues training as he has been he’ll continue to reach his fitness goals.

Victor Choptain, Boze’s member of the month for Janaury 2012.

February -

Melisa Stefaniw

Melisa has been a Boze’s member for about three years, being more regular than not during that time. Melisa is serious about her fitness, and if you’ve seen her in the gym you’d probably agree that she puts considerable effort into her workouts.

Melisa started at Boze’s while working across the road in the provincial building. She worked out regularly, usually during that time with another member who was also serious about her training. Since her training partner has moved Melisa continues to work out incorporating a variety of training formats.

Melisa recently started a new job with the City of Dauphin and although she’s no longer across the road she is still a very regular member at the gym. Melisa balances a busy work and home life with her training and can mostly be found at the gym after work - but has periodically worked out during lunch.

With her new position she finds that getting to the gym is even a bit more challenging but values the benefits fitness provides and always finds time to get here. She does both cardio and resistance training - emphasizing different components depending on how much time she has to work out.

Melisa Stefaniw, a great example of how to balance a busy schedule and make time for regular workouts is our February Member of the Month.

March -

Steve Hudyma

Steve has been a Boze’s member for a long time. He’s had a couples membership in the past, several short term memberships/renewals and several annual memberships.

He’s currently a steady training partner with Mike Penner, and the two of them are basically clockwork - if they’re in the gym you know schools out for the day.

Boze has known Steve for some time, as he was a local high school phenom - Steve was (and still is) a gifted athlete who excelled in court sports - and particularly basketball. He played some college ball and can still rock the rim!

Steve focuses on resistance training during his workouts and has incorporated functional training routines to complement his sport participation. He works out efficiently and doesn’t generally waste any time when he’s in the gym.

His recent focus has been on getting and staying strong for volleyball (he has a wicked smash). Steve continues to stay active and likes to drop by Boze’s as often as possible to do so.

Steve Hudyma, Boze’s Member of the Month for March 2012.

April -

Joseph Delorme

Joseph has been a Boze’s member for several years. He is somewhat inconspicuous, and to be honest, not exactly someone who brings any attention to himself when he works out.
Joseph generally hits the gym during the daytime but has worked out both early and later in the day. On many occasions over the years he has promoted Boze’s to his friends - and regularly brings new people with him to the gym.
Joseph is unassuming and works out without much notice. He has a regular routine in the weight room and from time to time uses cardio equipment - but his focus in usually on weight training. He works out hard, but again doesn’t draw much attention to himself.
Joseph is always friendly when he comes in for his workouts. He stops briefly at the front desk and then goes on to his regular routine of getting in a workout without so much as raising an eyebrow of anyone else in the gym. Joseph Delorme, our unassuming and quiet Member of the Month for April.

May -

Andrew Brewer

Our May member of the month is a familiar face to many who work out at the gym around the supper hour. Andrew Brewer is a current member who’s been here before – left – returned, and likely will be leaving again sometime this summer to pursue post-secondary education opportunities.

Andrew has a keen interest in staying in shape. As an athlete he appreciates what it takes to get into – and remain in “playing shape” and currently is working hard to increase his lean muscle mass. Andrew finds that working out is only one piece of the puzzle and in order to achieve his goals knows he must also watch what and how much he eats.

Over the years Andrew has regularly had Boze measure his body fat and finds this exercise helps to keep him motivated. The regular measurements help to focus his training – and remind him that taking time off generally doesn’t result in positive changes. Andrew can pretty much determine what the next measurements will be based on his training regimen – and he has rarely been too far off his predictions.

Andrew modifies his training according to what goals he is trying to achieve. Currently he is working out with moderate levels of resistance in order to get leaner – but has in the past worked out with heavier weights to gain muscle mass. He jokes that summer is around the corner so getting leaner is important at this time of the year – but knows that staying regular is the key to long term success.

Andrew always has a smile on his face and even when he’s tired from a workout or a long day at work has something positive to say. Andrew Brewer – our May 2012 member of the Month!
